Without a will, a person’s property upon their passing is distributed according to state law, which may not be what you want. A similar result may occur if your will is not up to date.

A will is simply a set of written instructions setting forth the distribution of your property after your death. Your will likely does not have to be long or complicated, but it’s important that you have a professional assist you in its creation. A will is one of three key estate planning documents that, along with a power of attorney and a healthcare power of attorney/living will, protect your interests and unburden your loved ones during difficult times.

As your life changes, so should your will. Marriage, divorce, children, inheritance, and the passing of loved ones are but some examples of events that should cause a review and possible changes to your will.
